TurboCAD ~ TCW files used in the book
or in some of the additional stuff on this site
NOTE: We have some
TurboCAD vbs scripts also
TurboCAD TCW files - usable asis

ch-18-solar-travel.tcw    solar travel mesh to set lights accurately - see this booklet for using it  and

this mpg video (about 300k in zip form) shows it in use on a style, vertical pole, and vertical dial
and the mesh plus several dials are
downloadable here (see
photo on the right). This is in TurboCAD 9.1 and works in 11 also.
This lets you experiment with the sun's shadow on several dials.

ch-20-lat-long-globe-arcs.tcw is a hemisphere of meshes.

ch-20-astrolabe-n-lat-33.tcw al the pictorials for designing a latitude 33
                    astrolabe as shown in the
article here.

VRML WRL files - see main page for files, VRML browser plugis, and standalone
  VRML browser, or see this
page on VRML.   The standalone .wrl files can be read by TurboCAD eg this one...

Also, see this page for
animated CAD as well as a virtual sundial garden using vrml/wrl where you can walk around.

To see how these are used, feel free to download
CALCULATING SHADOWS which has some pages on this, also DURER
AND CAD. They are also free.

CAD files for TurboCAD, CADstd, and generic, as well as a few jpeg files
also see panel below for some specific files, most recent addition is 1/16/06, which is a solar travel mesh ...

Cube dial - horizontal, vertical, and meridian dials - this is latitude specific and is for latitude 32 here

.TCW                         .CAD                                               .DXF

Cube dial - polar, equatorial, and meridian dials - only the Italian hour lines are latitude specific

      cube
dial with solar mesh on a gnomon you may
manipulate see 3d stereogram on the right
and you may move the light to see different
shadows at different times and reasons - this
              was built using TurboCAD 11,
see notes on
using the solar mesh to see true solar shadows..
TurboCAD files are usable asis, the .DXF and .CAD files may need refinement however they are at least a good starting point. VRML versions of CAD files are
here, you can manipulate them!

In no particular order, here are some of the raw TCW files, virus free 1/16/06 that can be used in TurboCAD. Most are TurboCAD release 9.1, some are release 11 which will not work
with release 9.1 ~ TurboCAD is about the cheapest 3D cad (computer aided design) I have found, and I mostly use the deluxe version which is a lot cheaper than the professional
version. The deluxe version is under $150.

TurboCAD can save files as .DXF files which increases their portability, and thus a release 11 file can be saved to DXF then opened by release 9.1, however, object colors present a
difficulty, and the conversion isn't perfect.

TurboCAD can save to .WRL which can be read by the VRML plugins or the standalone VRML browser, see main web page.
Most TCW files are release 9, some are release 11 of TurboCAD. Release 11 files are not backward
compatible. Some DXF, JPG and CAD files are here.  For
CAD animations see this page, and this general
vrml/cad page.
TurboCAD Professional -
vbs macros, notes, etc are here... and tested on versions 11 - 14

A snapshot of the virtual Jaipur
observatory.  You need the
Cortona browser plug-in (see
animated-CAD and VRML
garden page). Then you can
walk around this area!
Built in TurboCAD, stored here
in user manipulatable vrml!
Check the free book section for
Cubic Shadows, however,please
buy the main books also!
DeltaCAD users... not only do we have, free as usual, a number of DeltaCAD programs for you, but we have some that the standard DeltaCAD available macros do not do. For
example, the winged azimuth dial. For example an equatorial dial with the extras. And animated DeltaCAD stuff also! See the winged azimuth dial lines animate and change with
latitude. See a horizontal dial's hour lines and solstice curves animate with latitude. See the shadow move on a horizontal dial based on solar declination.  The DeltaCAD macros are
on
this page here, click to see and download. Extremely well documented.
TurboCAD users wanting to program in VBS on the Professional TurboCAD platform versions 11, 12, and 14 ~ ~ check this page here...
